After a nationwide search involving over 100,000 children from all over the country, selected 50 boys and 24 girls participated in the 2015 National Training Camp held last April 24 and 25 at the Philippine International Convention Center and April 26 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
The training camp was headed by NBA coach Chris Sumner and Lead coach for the Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Progrram of Alaska Jeff Cariaso. Chosen boys and girls were trained in the fundamentals of basketball and also learned the importance of the core values of sportsmanship, teamwork, a positive attitude, and respect (STAR).
The lucky participants got the chance to be coached by NBA stars Nerlens Noel of Philidelphia 76ers and WNBA Legend Ruth Riley who graced the event.
The final day was opened with an exhibition game from the Alumni of Jr. NBA All-Stars. They are divided into 2 teams namely Team Riley and Team Nerlens.
It’s so nice to see the All-Star Alumni grow from an amateur basketball player to a hardcore player. Take note, most of them are 3-point shooters and some of them can fly!
After the exhibition, the top 20 boys and top 20 girls show their talent and prove that they too can be named as Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA All-Star.
And after long and careful deliberation, they come up with 10 boys and 5 girls that ultimately named as Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA Philippine All-Stars. The well-deserving boys and girls will enjoy the experience of a lifetime with fellow all-stars from Southeast Asia and will travel abroad later in the year to watch an actual National Basketball Association game and meet NBA stars.
The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA present by Alaska is part is part of Alaska’s Nutrition Action Champion Program that inspires both boys and girls become future champions by teaching them skills to play the game as well as positive values which help them become better members of the community. Become a champion too and join Alaska’s Nutrition Action Champion Program. As Alaska Sports says “WE ARE GROWING A NATION OF CHAMPIONS”.
