The Lucky boys and girls who will represent Manila in the National Training Camp

The last Regional Selection Camp was held last weekend, April 9 and 10, at Don Bosco Makati.  A total of 1,114 aspirants (1,030 boys, 84 girls) from different places and all walks of life underwent extensive screening for 2 days but only 20 boys and 10 girls (including reserves of 4 boys and 2 girls) were selected.

The first screening day scoped several tests including agility, speed, and other basketball skills to determine player’s capability to be a Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA star.  At the end of the day, 40 boys and 24 girls were chosen to return for Day 2.  The first part of second day was the basketball clinic which was held in the morning and the scrimmage was held in the afternoon, where in selected participants were grouped into teams to compete with each other and apply all what they have learned from Day 1 and from the basketball clinic.

I have seen new faces and some familiar faces at the RSC – Manila.  First timers, second timers or more, but they just represent three characteristics:

The Jr. NBA and Jr. WNBA is the league’s global youth basketball participation program for boys and girls which teaches the fundamental skills as well as the core values of the game at the grassroots level in an effort to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for players, coaches and parents.

The Jr.NBA and Jr.WNBA presented by Alaska is under Alaska Milk’s Nutrition.Action. Champion program. It helps address the issue of overweight and undernourished Filipino children with the promotion of proper nutrition and active lifestyle through sports and outdoor play.
