Pinoy Trails and Be Trail Ready brings you STAR Trail Challenge 2017 on December 10, 2017 at Tanay Adventure Camp.  Formerly known as Sierra Trail Adventure Race (STAR), the 2017 edition brings the STAR in you as you navigate the rolling trails of Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal starting at Tanay Adventure Camp while your eyes get feasted on the scenic Sierra Madre Mountain Range.

Experience the beauty of Tanay Rizal, the trails, falls, river… I tell you, I’ve been there and it always mesmerize me.

Elite and amateur mountain bike (MTB) riders can once again expect a thrilling and demanding race experience as the 5th Filinvest City Endurance Weekend makes its way on September 30 – October 1, 2017, at the Filinvest City Alabang.

The Filinvest City Endurance Weekend, first staged in 2013, is an exciting two-day MTB event unlike any other as it challenges riders– either in solo and team categories to push themselves to the limit in the 6-hour, 12-hour, or 24-hour race spans that are very much a test of skill, endurance, and strength.

That Filinvest City serves as the race venue has become even more relevant and fitting with the recent introduction of bike lanes and trails, the latter a feature that cannot be found in other CBDs. Already, bikers of all backgrounds are taking advantage of these amenities, not only on weekends but also during the work week, making Filinvest City a true bike-friendly CBD.

“Cloud is a place on earth with you.” – Cloudfest Fun Run

Cloudfest Logo (1)SM by the Bay in partnership with Thinksportsph will be holding an obstacle-course-themed 3k foamy run entitled “Cloudfest Fun Run” – the coolest and cloudiest runaway in Metro.  The event will be held on August 27, 2017.

This is a sunset fun run where runner can wear a costume.  This event is open to all ages as there will be several fun obstacles, bubble machines and photo op materials along the route.

Proceeds of this event will help the “Rebuild a Church Project”.  A portion of the registration fee will go to the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish at Malinao Ilaya, Atimonan, Quezon.

Old Orchard Cranberry’s Tips on How to Take Care of your Kidneys

Kidneys are two bean-shaped multi-functional powerhouse organs of the urinary system. They expel waste from the body, balance body fluids, release hormones that regulate blood pressure, and control the production of red blood cells.

With all those jobs to be done, our kidneys deserve attention and care. The National Kidney and Transplant Institute has reported that Kidney Failure is the 7th leading cause of death among Filipinos and close to an estimate of 30,000-40,000 patients yearly undergo dialysis. Kidney disease often cannot be cured, but fortunately, it can be prevented early by taking care of our urinary tract. With the aid of Old Orchard’s resident US nutritionist, Amy Bragagnini, MS, RD, CSO, here are some tips that can help you prevent urinary tract and kidney infections.

  1. Eating Healthy and Exercising Regularly.

                Diabetes and high blood pressure cause most of the kidney problems. When blood pressure is high, blood vessels stretch to allow blood to flow more easily. The stretching eventually injures and weakens the blood vessels, impairing their ability to clean blood properly, including those in the kidneys. That’s why it is always best to follow healthy eating habits such as limiting intake of sodium (2,500 mg) and sugar, and controlling weight and blood pressure through exercise. Watchful eaters should also consider the addition of calcium-filled food (milk, yogurt, calcium fortified cereals, etc.) to their diet. However, Bragagnini notes that one must not mistake calcium supplements as an alternative to the natural food sources, as it could result to kidney stone formation when taken in excess.

  1. Giving up on Smoking.

If you’re smoking, you should quit now as smoking slows the flow of blood to the kidneys. This results to an impairment to function properly which increases risks of kidney cancer by 50%.

  1. Following Directions for Over-the-Counter Medications.

                Your kidneys can only take so much. Overdoing your medications create high toxins level in the body, posing great burden on the kidneys. So as much as possible, limit yourself from too much chemical exposure. If you really need medications, consult with your physician and follow the instructions well.

  1. Having them Screened Regularly.

                If diabetes or high blood pressure is in the genes, it is always ideal for you to have your kidneys tested regularly as part of your routine check-up. A creatinine level higher than 1.2 for women and 1.4 for men is a sure sign of a kidney problem.

  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

“Fluid intake is another important step to help lower risk of kidney stone formation and urinary tract infection”, stresses Bragagini. Healthy individuals who aren’t suffering present kidney diseases should consume enough water and other fluids of at least 2 liters of fluid per day. Consuming enough fluid helps dilute the urine and helps flush toxins. Bragagini prescribes that pairing a meal with Cranberry juice in moderation is a great way to reduce instances  of irritation in the urinary tract. In fact, Cranberries are power packed fruits that are rich in Vitamin C and a source of Flavonoid and Phytonutrient contents called Hippuric Acid and Proanthocyanidin. These power duo components prevent UTI-causing bacteria from sticking into the wall of the bladder and urinary tract preventing further damage to the kidneys.

Bragagini closes by saying that the most important thing you can do to keep your kidneys safe is to take care of your overall body to reduce your chances of developing diseases that put a strain on your kidneys. Coupled by prevention, it is also aided by continuously doing consultation with your physician or dietitian.

PART TWO OF UA CIRCUIT CHALLENGE HELD LAST WEEKEND

March 6, 2017 Manila, Philippines: The UA Circuit Challenge was held last weekend at Greenbelt 3, and was part of a two-part event which served as a preliminary event to help prepare the participants of the regional fitness challenge UA ‘Test of Will’.

Under Armour athlete Elle Adda hosted the event, along with Bellator fighter AJ Matthews and Celebrity trainer Mama Kat.  Elle is a French-Filipino tri-athlete, fitness expert , model and an international performing artist.  Hosts all wore the latest Threadborne line of Under Armour.

One of the highlights of the event was the on-the-spot challenge that the crowd requested between fighter AJ Matthews and Elle Ada.  In said challenge, Matthews and Ada also competed over a round of ball slams, squat, ball rock and roll-ups, press and burpees.  Matthews won with a 1-second margin over Ada.  Fighter AJ Matthews also showed some self-defense techniques.

Winners of the UA Circuit Challenge event for this leg were Edwin Lobelia (1:47),Ted Waikin (1:56), Jayson Ang (1:57), Jona Constantino (1:53), Marianne Roulade (1:54) and Ericka Mesia (2:00).

The UA Circuit Challenge sets the stage for the much awaited UA ‘Test of Will’  set to take place on March 25 & 26 at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City. It is on its second year and will be held in 6 countries, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines.

Participants in ‘Test of Will’, will compete in a four-minute circuit consisting of Burpees, One Arm Thruster, TRX Rows and Sandbag Throw.  Each competitor will be scored based on the maximum number of repetitions they can achieve within 60 seconds. The highest scoring man and woman of the national heats from each respective country will win an all-expense paid trip to compete in the regional finals, happening in Kuala Lumpur on 6 May 2017.

This year’s overall champion of the regional finals will walk away with S$2,500 cash prize, or around Php 88,000.00.

TV5 Superheroes Run: Manila

Want to be a superhero just for a day?  You don’t need to take superhero training class or pass the obstacles of American Ninja Warrior like Jessie Graff (if you don’t know her, she is the woman behind the stunts scene of Supergirl that will be start airing on March 21 at 7:30pm).   All you need to do is bring one specific superpower:  the heart of a superhero fan who wants to spread love and support to other people and join the heroes assembly on February 25, 2017 at SM Mall of Asia grounds.

The event is dubbed as TV5 Superheroes Run: Manila.  The event is not just a fun run but also to spread the spirit of doing good like our favorite superheroes, a portion of the proceeds from the race will be donated to the Alagang Kapatid Foundation (AKFI).

The Superheroes Run Manila is also an avenue to promote the superheroes programs of TV5 – Arrow which airs every Monday at 7:30pm, The Flash, Mondays 8:30pm and the upcoming launch of the tagalized version of Supergirl which will be flying in every Tuesday starting March 21 at 7:30pm.  The event will also be joined by TV5 stars and athletes.
