ONE STC RUN 2017: A Family Fun Run with Duathlon and Kiddie Bike Race

funrun poster

Date: November 26, 2017

Venue: Camp Aguinaldo

The successful One STC Run organized by the St. Theresa’s College, Quezon City Class of 1992 last year inspired STCQC Class of 1993 to continue the event.

Both classes— including the STCQC Alumnae Association— hope that this would become an annual gathering for Theresian families and their friends.

On its second year, One STC Run is now One STC Run 2.0: A Family Fun Run with Duathlon and Kiddie Bike Race.

STCQC 1993 designed this year’s Run for:

  • families who want to spend a healthy morning together
  • the serious athletes; and
  • the kiddos who want to exhibit their biking prowess!

The Run is also one of the fundraising activities of STCQC 1993 for its Homecoming on 27 January 2018 and the class’s chosen beneficiaries: The Queen of Peace Convent, the retirement home of the Sisters of the Missionary Heart of Mary (ICM); the scholars of STC’s Sambayan Educational Fund, Inc. (SEFI); and the construction of the new senior high school building.

As this year’s Run will be at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo, we thought it best to also give tribute to the valor of our soldiers.

The Run participants can also make a separate donations to help sustain the education of the children of soldiers, under the auspices of HERO Foundation.

Race Kit prices:

3K Run – PHP 500
6K Run – PHP 700
Duathlon – PHP 1500
Kiddie Bike – PHP 500

UNLIMITED YOUTH: SISTER MADONNA BUDER

The “Unlimited Youth” film is the latest installment in the Nike “Unlimited” Campaign, which includes the “Unlimited Courage” film, “Unlimited You” film, the company’s recent series of athlete shorts and more, with more to come through the month of August, hails both the everyday athletes and the champion athletes who regularly push their limits — and who are poised to prove their unlimited potential this summer and beyond.

“Unlimited Youth” celebrates an extraordinary athlete, Sister Madonna Buder, and her determination to defy conventional conceptions of age.

sister madonna buder

When Sister Madonna Buder needed a little extra oomph to complete her first IRONMAN® World Championship triathlon in Hawaii, she predictably channeled the divine. “I thought of the finish line as the entrance to the final finish line, into the Pearly Gates,” she recalls. “That’s what drew me to [it].”

Sister Buder completed that race in 1985, at the age 65. At 75, the American nun became the oldest woman to ever complete an IRONMAN triathlon. At 82, she set a world record as the oldest IRONMAN triathlon competitor. Today, at 86 years old, she has completed over 40 IRONMAN races, each comprising of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run. Her steely resolve has earned her the epithet the “Iron Nun.” Along the way she’s had some setbacks — missing a race finish by a matter of seconds, multiple broken bones, wetsuit issues — but, she proclaims, “The only failure is not to try, because your effort in itself is a success.”

Sister Buder’s introduction to sport came just seven years before her first race in Hawaii, when she attended a workshop on the Oregon Coast that was led by a priest who championed running as a way to harmonize the mind, body and soul. Sister Buder took this creed to the extreme, burning out on the sport before discovering the variety of the triathlon. “That was the salvation,” she declares. Her physical endurance she attributes to listening to her body and maintaining a positive mindset.

“You carry your attitude with you,” Sister Buder elaborates. “You either achieve or you self-destruct. If you think positively, you can even turn a negative into a positive.” Along with this spiritual guidance, she imparts simple, yet easily applicable performance advice to younger athletes: “One step at a time makes a marathon.”

6 Reasons To Join Color Manila’s Blacklight Run

You see the same sights, follow a steady pace, and apart from the music blaring in your earphones, you don’t really get a lot of variety—so what’s fun about a run?

How about joining Color Manila’s Blacklight Run to see for yourself?

Color Manila is encouraging everyone to sign up for a one of a kind running experience—one that combines fitness with new and exciting sights, opportunities to bond with family and friends, while still getting all the benefits of exercise.

Here are some of the reasons why you should seriously consider lacing up those running shoes—

Colors

Running can be boring—and once in a while, it helps to add a bit of variety into the mix. For Color Manila, as the name implies, it’s all about the hues. Whether you opt for the 10K, 5K or 3K, you can be sure to enjoy a unique running event amid filled with neon colors.

It’s At Night

Not a morning person? No problem. Since the Blacklight Run is happening at night, you don’t need to worry about waking up early or running under the heat of the sun. Color Manila makes this night run even more spectacular through the colors they’d be using – the colors would glow in the dark, thanks to the blacklight that would illuminate the entire race route.

Go At Your Own Pace

The focus here is fun. It doesn’t matter if you’re a running pro who can easily complete 10K in a blink, or a newbie just dipping your toe in the world of running, it’s the perfect event to get started. Piece of advice – just enjoy the race route.

Get Social

For those who are always on the look out for something new and exciting things to do in the city, the Blacklight Run creates a perfect venue to get into shape, bond with family and friends, and of course, meet new people.

For Fitness

While undeniably fun, you’re still bound to reap the benefits of exercise. Challenge yourself and see if you can beat your time and distance, or choose to take in the colorful sights at a pace you’re comfortable with—either way, you’ll feel better about having joined and finished it.

It’s For A Cause

More than organizing the coolest fun runs in the country, Color Manila sees to it to give back to the community through the Color Manila Foundation (CMF). Inspired by the hues of the rainbow, CMF commits to support the following causes: Medical Missions, Arts and Creativity, Health and Fitness, Mother Nature, Education, Innovation, and Disaster Response. Clearly, Color Manila is an organization with a huge heart.
